Amazon Product Review: Extendable 62" Tripod for Smartphones

Our first product test was this lightweight but sturdy 62" tripod for smartphones. I’ll be honest, I’ve been through my fair share of tripods with very limited success. When I saw the positive reviews, I thought I’d give this one a try. I’ve already used in multiple times since I purchased it: group selfie (thanks to the remote control) at a community event, filming content for clients, and even filming content for our business. I attended a local Summer Concert Series event, and it was the perfect way to film some of the live music without having the camera shake or hearing my breathe (lol)!

Here's why we like it:

  • Min. height 12" (perfect selfie stick)

  • Max. height 62"

  • Extends easily

  • Lightweight but feels sturdy

  • Comes with carrying case

  • Holds phone sturdily in place (doesn't wiggle)

  • Smartphone tripod stand easily adjusts horizontal, 45 degrees, or vertical

  • Comes with a Bluetooth remote control for the perfect group selfie or capturing stable video

  • On sale for $29.99 (list price $36.99)

Once Upon a Lime: My Electric Scooter Adventure in Washington, D.C.

Places to Be, People to See…and Scooters to Ride!

Don’t want to read the entire article? Here you go! If not, scroll down…

TL;DR (Too Long, Didn't Read)

WHAT IS IT: Lime electric scooters (owned by Uber)

WHERE TO FIND: Use their downloadable, free app to locate the closest scooter

HOW IT WORKS: Download the app. Add a debit/credit card. Scan the scooter's QR code to unlock the bike. Ride!

COST: $1 to unlock plus $0.29 per mile

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: moderate

MORE INFO: https://www.uber.com/us/en/ride/scooters/

Recently, my teenage daughter and I visited Washington, D.C. during her Spring Break. This was the third time that she and I have traveled to the nation's capital for a trip to the Smithsonian Museums...(self-proclaimed nerds and proud of it).

The last time we had visited D.C. was back in 2019. A lot has changed since then including a global pandemic, renovations being made to a few of our fave museums, and a lovely knee surgery of mine last summer.

It was a chilly four days. After battling the blustery winds and bone-chilling cold, we made the executive decision to rent some electric scooters to expedite our 1.5 mile walk back to the hotel.

Now I’m aware that pay-per-ride, electric scooters have been popping up in downtown districts for the past few years. They’re a great addition to multi-modal transportation including walking, driving, using bike racks, electric vehicle charging stations, rapid transit stations.

I’m also aware you might be thinking that we had a few other easy options such as an Uber ride or taxi. We did. It would have been easy to reserve a ride or flag down a taxi driver.

But where is the ADVENTURE in that?

So my daughter and I walked up to a cluster of rentable scooters and bikes that were attached to a bike racks. We selected the Lime scooters, owned by Uber. With no research conducted prior to this impromptu decision firmly based on our quickly-decreasing internal temperatures, the scooters we selected were based on the following criteria:

  1. They were available.

  2. They looked pretty.

Very scientific, I know…

My daughter, KG, downloaded the Lime app (available wherever you get your apps) and laughed when the first screen prompted her through a brief safety briefing. As a recent Drivers Test graduate, she shared that the safety tips were very broad…

IMPORTANT SAFETY BREAK | Safety while riding scooters is important! It is strongly recommended that riders operate the scooters safely and responsibly, being mindful of traffic flow and City ordinances. Safety first!

Safety tips for riders:

  • Conduct a safety check of the scooter and take a test ride.

  • Wear a helmet.

  • Ride solo.

  • Do not drink and ride.

After vowing to adhere to local traffic rules, she linked my debit card, scanned the first scooter's QR code, and the scooter beep-beep-booped to let us know that it was releasing the bike lock. After my daughter unlocked my scooter - whom I named Bessie - it was time to embark on our inaugural adventure.

Immediately, KG scooted off into the distance as if she's been driving these since birth. I swelled with momma pride remarking to myself that she has become a strong, independent, and capable young woman who would take on the world.

With a full heart, it was time for me to go! No time like the present! Here we go!!

I tried.

And I tried again.

I stood there…dumbfounded…unable to make the damn thing GO.

Picture it: I'm standing on the side of the wide, gravel sidewalk on the picturesque Mall in Washington, D.C. with hundreds of on-lookers who I was convinced in this very moment were all staring at ME:

To my left? The Capitol Building.

To my right? The Washington Monument.

Directly in front of me? My personal pride laying on the ground.

I began laughing because, ya know, I own and run a successful company called For the Love of TECHNOLOGY, and here I couldn't figure out this stupid, worthless scooter. Bessie was really letting me down...

My daughter calmly scooted around after performing a perfect U-turn (seriously...she's been on this thing for 23.6 seconds) to assist her ailing mother.

"Yeah so you need to push off with your foot, and THEN press the throttle,” she calmly explains but the eye roll could be HEARD for miles…

Easy enough...if I had actually read the directions on the app.

And with that....we were off…Both of us!

After zooming around for a few minutes, I realized that I LOVED this. Unequivocally, without hesitation became an instant fan. I wondered why I had never tried it before as we took off toward the hotel.

The hotel was only about 1.5 miles from where we started, but I decided that it would be even MORE of an adventure if we took the long way back.

Narrator: With the wind blowing in her hair and the sun on her face, Mary got them lost.

Very, very lost.

So here's the part where I tell you about the "No Go" zones. You see, the Lime folks are brilliant. To ensure that their scooters don't end up in less-than-desirable locations (ie. highways, random parking lots, and the bottom of rivers), they program each scooter to just STOP WORKING in certain geo-fenced locations.

Not knowing this (please refer to chapter, "Mary Didn't Read the Instructions"), I assumed my battery died when Bessie just stopped moving. I had completley ignored the skull and cross bone warning* on the screen that was desperately trying to alert me that we had entered a "No Go" zone.

Lesson learned!

Once we manually Fred Flinstone’d our way out, things got back to normal. After a successful first ride, we rented Lime scooters for the rest of our trip. To be honest, I don’t have the words to describe how FUN these scooters are…you really need to try them out!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost?

$1 to unlock + $0.29 per mile*

Our scooter adventures were usually between $12.50 - $25.00 (approx.) for both of us together

*at the time of publishing

Are they difficult to drive? Do you feel like you're going to fall off?

Not difficult at ALL...once you figure out how to make the damn things go. I felt very safe and secure. Note: It is always safest to wear a helmet.

On a scale of 1-10 (1 is “I’m a klutz” and 10 is “I’m super coordinated”), what skill level is needed to ride these things?

I’d say a 6 or 7.

How fast do they go?

Max speed is 45 mph. Just kidding - it's about 10 mph. Due to the terrain, amount of pedestrians, and our lack of experience, we usually were traveling around 5-8 mph.

How long does the battery last?

No clue, but there's a LCD display that shows you the battery life so you can check before you rent the scooter.

What do you do if you are in a “No Go” zone and your scooter stops working?

Just. Keep. Swimming. :) You’ll need to walk your scooter OR push it manually…which is actually a lot harder than you’d imagine.

Do you have to return them to a specific location?

No, as long as it is somewhere where you can lock it up.

How do you locate a Lime scooter?

You can search for nearby Lime scooters using their app.

Spotting the International Space Station

My family and I live in North Carolina, so we are blessed to have the opportunity to spend time outside for at least nine months out of the year. We love eating outside, sitting around the fire pit, and looking at the stars. One of our favorite things to do is watching flybys of the International Space Station from our very own backyard.

For years, the International Space Station has amazed me.  In our day and age, it’s common to see dozens of airplanes in the sky.  But the ISS is different.  There are humans living and working up there, in a man-made structure the size of a football field, that travels around the earth every 92 minutes, at a speed 25 times faster than a Boeing 747!

So what exactly is the International Space Station?

According to their Facebook page, the ISS is “…a collaboration of 15 nations working together to create a world-class, state-of-the-art orbiting research facility. The Station is much more than a world-class laboratory; it is an international human experiment.”

Not only is the ISS a laboratory for scientific research, it’s also a platform for observation of astronomical and geological interests. As we get closer and closer to deep space exploration, the International Space Station can serve as a pit-stop as we travel to Mars and interstellar destinations.

Some very cool factoids (provided by the ISS Spotter app developer, Martin van Mierloo):

  • HOW HIGH: The ISS is in orbit at an altitude of 390-420 kilometers or 240-260 miles. The height varies as the ISS slowly descends to earth every day. Once every few weeks a rocket boosts the ISS back into the right orbit.

  • HOW FAST: The ISS moves in its orbit at approximately 8 kilometers or 5 miles per second! That is 25 times faster than a Boeing 747 or 9 times the speed of a bullet. At this speed it travels around the earth in 92 minutes.

  • HOW BIG: The ISS including its solar panels has a length of 73 meters (239 feet) and a width of 109 meters (356 feet). That’s about the size of a soccer/football field.

  • HOW MANY RESIDENTS: Normally three to six people stay at the ISS. Every two to four months a new crew arrives at the ISS, replacing the old crew. When a new crew arrives they work together for a few weeks before the first crew returns to earth. The Soyuz spacecraft that delivers the crews has seats for three people.

  • WHY WE SEE IT: In the hours after the sun sets (or before the sun rises) the light of the sun still reflects on the solar panels of the ISS. The ISS still flies in the sunlight while down on earth it’s dark. This is the perfect time to spot the ISS. The solar panels are so big that you can see the ISS even if it’s hundreds of kilometers/miles away.

  • WHY WE CAN’T SEE IT: The reflection on the ISS solar panels is not bright enough to be seen against the blue sky during the day. Only a few objects such as the moon are bright enough to be seen during the day.

  • HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN UP THERE? The first module of the ISS (called Zarya) was launched in November 1998. Additional missions in 1999 and 2000 delivered modules and components to enable permanent residence. On November 2nd 2000 the first crew arrived. Since then there were always people at the ISS. The build of the ISS was finished in 2011.

  • HOW MUCH IT COST: The ISS is the most expensive man made object. Total costs are estimated at between $100 to $160 billion. It costs $3 billion per year to keep it operational.

“Mary, stop babbling about the ISS…tell us how to see it in our backyard!”

Okay, okay…I get carried away with all things science and math. So let’s get to what you really wanted to know!

Although there are a few desktop programs and mobile apps that you can use to locate the ISS, I have a clear favorite: ISS Spotter (and no, I’m not receiving any compensation for promoting this product). This app became available in May of 2012.

You can download the ISS Spotter in the App store or in Google Play.

You can download the ISS Spotter in the App store or in Google Play.

Not only does this app come with a ton of features, it’s also FREE.  No gimmicks, absolutely F R E E ! The developer, Martin van Mierllo, wants the app to be available to as many people as possible.  He said the best reward is receiving emails from parents who watch the ISS with their kids (awwwww! You can send him an email here if you’d like).

The app provides you accurate and easy-to-use information on locating the International Space Station.  You do not need a telescope or binoculars. You don’t even need a sextant (made you look!). The ISS Spotter apps lets you set up alarms to notify you when the ISS will be visible in your location.

There are three main pages: Position, Forecast, and Settings.

ISS Spotter Position screen.PNG

Position Screen

This screen shows you exactly where the International Space Station is located on a map. It’s extremely accurate (it updates every second), and you can see the projected path on the yellow curved line. You can zoom in and out, and toggling the Lock button on/off will focus and refocus on the ISS.

ISS Spotter Forecast screen.jpg

forecast screen

This is my favorite screen! It lists the upcoming passes of the ISS relative to your position for the next 7 days. It gives you the date and time, as well as the peak elevation (the higher the degree the easier to see, especially if you’re in a neighborhood with lots of trees) and the brightness (more stars means more clearly visible in the sky).

You can easily set an alarm by clicking on the alarm icon next to each listing.

Click on one of the listings and you will find the compass view.  This is the really fun part! Look for the “START” arrow. That is the direction from which the ISS will rise from the horizon.  Similarly, the “END” arrow is the direction where the ISS will disappear under the horizon line.

Note: You usually can’t see the ISS lower than 10° from the horizon.

ISS Spotter Settings graphic.PNG

Settings screen

The settings screen features info on the alarms, the app itself, a help guide. You can also specify your location as your current location or a selected location of your choice.

(If you download the app and love it, there’s a place in the “Settings” where you can make a small donation to keep the awesomeness flowing…$0.99 or $1.99 is all it takes.)

Send me pics or email me with your experience watching the International Space Station. I’d love to hear about it!

 Gratefully,

Mary

What’s The Word on Wordle?

If you have logged into Facebook at all during 2022, chances are your feed is flooded with random numbers and these three emojis: ⬛️🟨🟩. This might seem like a secret code but in reality it is the newest word game craze: Wordle. We at For The Love of Technology have finally caved and started playing it and let me tell you, the hype is real.

Wordle is a daily word puzzle game that is Scrabble meets Password. You are given 6 chances to correctly guess the 5 letter “Wordle” of the day using nothing but your brain. After guessing a word each letter is given a black, yellow, or green highlight. The black background means that the letter is not in the word at all, and to stop using them. Yellow letters are in the word but not in that position, and green letters are in the word AND in the right spot.

This game is simple enough to not cause us to rage quit yet challenging enough to be a great way to kickstart your day or relax before bed. And, if you use the desktop version, there is one puzzle every day. This way you will not be sucked into the Wordle rabbit hole and lose hours of your day.

After you solve the puzzle for the day you can choose to share your results on social media. Wordle takes the results of your game and turns it into a post automatically; with the date, puzzle number, and how many guesses out of 6 it took to get it. Below the string of numbers are rows of square emojis that correspond to the letter squares you played earlier.

If that hasn’t convinced you to hop over to https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/ here are some tips and tricks to get over those Wordle hurdles.

“I keep a scratch paper next to me to try out different combinations before typing in, since you can't skip squares while you're thinking." -Allison

"Strategize and use process of elimination. Start with a typical five letter word. Determine which letters were useful and work from there." -Cherie

"I tried ADIEU first a lot, so I can figure out the vowels." -Alison

"Honestly, I just start with the first five letter word that comes to mind each morning!" -Jennifer

So whether you are a master code breaker or casual puzzle solver, there is something about Wordle that is for everyone. Click on the button below to be directed to Wordle’s website and start guessing!

The Best Shopping Apps To Use in 2022

Hey everyone, we have made it through another week!

Today I wanted to share some of the best shopping and grocery delivery apps that have surged in popularity throughout the last couple years.  Listed below are 4 different apps and a pros and cons list so you can find the perfect fit for your lifestyle. I personally use these whenever I feel like splurging, don’t want to get off the couch, or am too comfortable in my sweatpants!

Instacart

Instacart offers hand-picked groceries that are delivered from your favorite local stores. Certain terms apply. Type in your address and a list of food stores and more will pop up. Shop from your computer or smartphone, choose what you want, see real-time updates, and select and schedule your time for same-day delivery or pickup. Curbside pickup is available.

Pros:

  • You don’t need a membership to order with Instacart. You can even order from clubs, like Costco, Sam’s Club, and BJ’s Wholesale Club, without a retailer club membership.

  • Delivery: Fees start at $3.99 for same-day orders over $35.00. Fees vary for one-hour deliveries, club store deliveries, and deliveries under $35.00.

  • If something isn’t correct you can report missing items, incorrect items, damaged items, poor replacements, early/late orders through the website.

  • Customers who order alcohol, prescriptions, or certain high-value items may need to show ID upon delivery. We ask shoppers to wear masks whenever they come into contact with customers.

  • Leave at My Door is now the default setting for all Instacart deliveries. If you’d prefer to not use this feature, simply uncheck the box that says “Leave at my door if I’m not around” at checkout.

  • Instacart can be used on Android and iPhone.

Cons:

  • There may be a “pickup fee” (equivalent to a delivery fee for pickup orders) on your pick-up order.

Service fees vary and are subject to change based on factors like location and the number and types of items in your cart.

  •  Orders containing alcohol have a separate service fee.

  • Some retailers offer everyday store prices; however, some retailers may set prices on the Instacart platform that are different from in-store prices.

Amazon Shopping

Amazon Shopping offers app-only benefits to help make shopping on Amazon faster and easier than shopping on your desktop. What is the difference between the Amazon app and the Amazon shopping app? The main difference between the two is it’s no longer possible to access Amazon’s own Android Appstore through its app. The new Amazon app, called simply Amazon Shopping, lets you shop from the online store as usual – but nothing else.

Pros:

  • The app gives you access to Amazon’s online store via your smartphone of choice.  You can search for stuff to buy, see recommendations, control Alexa, look up products, check on your orders, manage subscriptions, and loads more

  • Tool looks for lower prices at other stores while you shop on Amazon and tells you where to buy.

  • The best delivery in the world; free shipping & fast shipping

  • Amazon Prime membership, Second day free delivery

  • Provides shopping carts that customers use as shopping lists

  • Positive Customer Trust earned over time

  • Provide Product Content: Offering information customers actively seek, want and need

Cons:

  • If you’re shipping, you still have to prep and package items.

  • Depending on the store, there can be additional costs for usage and delivery fee.

  • A Lack of Branding Options

  • You can’t try on clothes or shoes

  • Some sellers may place and deliver a fake or used product. (Hence always buy form a Prime seller).

  • If you face an issue, you can’t catch hold of one particular person, you’re caught in the hierarchical Web of the company

  • Money disputes can last a long time

  • Delivery person might not come at your convenience

Walmart inhome delivery

You can shop for groceries, as well as baked goods, fresh produce, organic food items, pantry staples, market specialty products, and so on. The app offers a ‘Favorites’ option for fast reordering purposes. You can safely pay for your groceries using Walmart Pay app. Additionally, you can get extra concessions on the existing in-store discounts while shopping online.

Pros:

  • Depending on the time of day that you order, you can enjoy same-day delivery.

  • You can also schedule a time for delivery.

  • You can track and transfer prescriptions as well as refills.

  • The app can be used on Android.

Cons:

  • The online shopping fee can be much more expensive.

  • Lack of control over selection of perishable goods

  • Inadequate substitutions

  • Inability to find good deals online vs. shopping in store.

Shipt

Shipt is an Ideal grocery app for the discerning shopper who is consistently looking to order products from fresh produce to household essentials with on-demand, same day delivery. Alternatively, you can use a Shipt Pass. Shipt Passes are basically a one-time delivery fee. You can purchase a Shipt Pass before placing an order or at checkout with most retailers. Each Shipt Pass costs $10. You can also get three for $27 or five for $40.

  • Annual members get free delivery for orders of $35 and over. Orders less than $35 will incur a flat $7 delivery fee which will be added to your total. There is no order minimum if you use a Shipt Pass.

App Review: Ditto (Copy. Paste. Save Time.)

Purpose: Saves your most commonly used texts, phrases, and templates

Availability: App Store, Google Play Store, Windows

Cost: price varies by platform

Something that bothers me to no end is having to type the same thing over and over and over again…

Regardless of what job you have, I’m certain you can relate on some level. Whether it’s my (long) email address, a response to a frequently asked question on one of the accounts we manage, or even just a “Glad to have met you today, let’s connect soon!” …finding a way to save myself time is key.

There are a few apps that provide a solution to this problem out there, but my favorite is called Ditto.

It’s super easy to get started. Within the app, you set up a maximum of 8 Categories of your choosing. I have categories assigned to several clients and my business as well as one for personal use.

Really Cool Feature:

I use this to house a lot of the curated hashtags (for example: #maythetechbewithyou 😉) that we use for our clients. It’s so easy to copy/paste right into the social media scheduling app.

Here’s what Ditto has to say about their app:

“Whether it’s texting, dating, business, or just regular daily communication, we tend to repeat ourselves quite often.

With Ditto, save your most commonly used texts, phrases, and templates, and access them easily from any app!

Stop wasting time, and start saying things in a snap!

Disclaimer: For the app’s full features to work, you must “All Full Access” in your device’s keyboard settings. We believe in your privacy. Nothing that you say or save leaves your phone, everything is saved privately on your device.

If you choose not to allow full access, saving dittos from inside the keyboard will not work, but the rest of the app will function as expected.”

How To Protect Your Information From Scammers When Shopping Online

Scammers will do everything in their power to ruin your day and take advantage of you. Scams often result in you losing money you can’t get back, and even more serious, having your identity stolen. Experiencing this devastating misfortune is a time-consuming and frustrating endeavor.

#1. Top of the list and probably THE most important. USE RELIABLE PAYMENT METHODS. In a study conducted by the Better Business Bureau (BBB), people who pay with credit cards while shopping online are less likely to lose money and according to Liz Lasher, VP of portfolio marketing for fraud at FICO, credit cards offer the best fraud protection for shopping online. In an age when more and more people order gifts and shop online instead of going to stores to pick them up, it's easier than ever for vendors or malicious websites to trick stressed-out consumers into paying for something they won't receive or steal their credit card information. If the vendor requests payment via cash transfer apps (such as Venmo or Cash App), prepaid money cards, or another non-traditional method, proceed with caution. Always shop with a credit card or secure and traceable payment method such as PayPal. (Check your credit card contract’s fine print to see what kind of fraud protection you will get.) And, paying with a debit card can make it much more difficult for you to get your money back.

#2. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN CLICKING ON ADS. Advertisements for that perfect gift that you’ve been looking for may lead you to a fraudulent website where your information could be compromised, one with malware, or one that sells fake products. I always look over the ad for a business name or website address. If it seems all too suspicious, I will Google the company to visit the site to see if my suspicions are correct.

#3. MAKE SURE YOU DOCUMENT ALL THE TRACKING INFORMATION CAREFULLY. Prior to completing your order, make sure you have explicit contact information. Company name, phone number, email address, and definitely make sure you jot down the tracking number. I can hear you say, won’t the tracking number be on the confirmation email they send me? Sure, it will, and if you have purchased an item through some sort of scammers site, where is that confirmation email and tracking number now? One common scam, according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), is for scammers to send a text saying you have a package waiting for you. Often, the text will tell you that you must log in to arrange delivery and include a link to a website where you can be tricked into divulging personal information such as passwords, account numbers, or Social Security Numbers.

There’s a good chance that if is real if you recognize the company’s name and have recently purchased from them. In case you have questions, you can copy the tracking number from the text or email confirming shipment and paste it directly into the search engine on the shipping company’s website. Avoiding clicking on any links is typically the safest option. Also, you are familiar with USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. These are all common delivery services in the US. Check to make sure your tracking number is one that is commonly used through these shipping/delivery services. If the link (again) looks suspicious, confirm the tracking number on the shipping company’s website to make sure it is legitimate.

#4. LOOK AT THE WEBSITES CAREFULLY. This is one that can stand out like a sore thumb!! When you are doing some of your holiday shopping, especially from a new or unfamiliar company, take a bit of time to look over the website (or Facebook page) to make sure it’s legitimate. Look for spelling and grammar mistakes, look for clear, detailed product information, and size charts for clothing. Even if you find something that is advertised on your FB page and it looks like just what you have been searching for, Google it to see what else comes up online to make sure you can purchase it through a legit source.

#5. DON’T SHOP BY PHOTO ALONE. People say internet pictures of websites convinced them to deal with scammers, especially about pets or pet supplies, clothing, and vehicles, according to the Better Business Bureau. If you are shopping through a marketplace such as Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, check the product description carefully or ask for further detailed information.

#6. LOOK FOR THE BBB SEAL. Businesses that have been accredited by the BBB have agreed to follow the BBB Standards for Trust and to treat customers fairly. If you see a BBB seal, chances are it is a respectable company—but you can double-check by visiting the BBB's website.

#7. CONSIDER CHANGING YOUR PASSWORDS. Consider changing your passwords for banks, credit cards, and other essential accounts at the start of each new year if you haven't done so recently (or ever). Scammers will have a harder time hacking your accounts with more password security, and the longer the password, the better, according to Liz Lasher with FICO. If you are concerned that you may have fallen victim to a scam and handed away your password to any account, change all of your passwords right away, just in case.

#8. REPORT FRAUDULENT BEHAVIOR. You can report scams or suspicious behavior described in the above paragraphs if you become a victim or if you encounter any of the above. You can file a complaint with the BBB if you’re unhappy with a purchase, or if an item you purchased fell through the cracks, you can report it to the BBB Scam Tracker to help others avoid a similar experience. Through the Recent Ad Activity tab, you can also report a bad shopping experience that occurred on Facebook or Instagram. If you clicked through to a fraudulent site, for instance, you’ll be able to see the ads you recently clicked on and leave feedback on any that seemed to be suspicious. The ability to advertise on Facebook may be revoked for advertisers who have displayed substantial negative feedback.

#9. BUY GIFT CARDS FOR GIFTS, NOT FOR PAYMENTS. Gift cards are a great answer for birthdays or surprise gifts. But they’re also a scammer’s favorite way to steal your money. Anyone who contacts you and demands that you pay them with a gift card, for any reason, is always a scammer. Report gift card scams directly with the card issuer (use this list of card issuer phone numbers and emails), then report it to the FTC at ftc.gov/complaint. Learn even more at ftc.gov/giftcards.

For The Love of Technology hopes you follow these tips to stay safe online because a day without falling for a scam is a day not spent stressing over identity theft or financial losses. We wish you a happy New Year and as always, May The Tech Be With You.
